FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Starbuck, Hannah’s family dog and Lorand’s best friend, is excited to welcome you all :)
Q: What should I pack?
A: Summer weather in Telluride tends to be lovely! In July, the average high is 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low is 51 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of the elevation, it can feel quite hot in the sun (sunscreen is a must). Pack layers as the mountain location means temperatures change quickly. The temperature drops significantly at night. Bring a rain jacket, as a rain shower often passes through in the early afternoon. The welcome party will be smart casual and the wedding will be cocktail attire. Please pack a wrap or jacket for both nights and opt for flat shoes or a stacked heel/wedge rather than a stiletto for the wedding day.
Q: How do I get around?
A: Plan on booking ground transportation from the airport with Telluride Express as Lyft and Uber do not operate in the area. Please reference this page for more details on getting here.

Both the Town of Telluride and Mountain Village are walkable and worth exploring on foot.
-
The gondola will take you from town to village and back.
-
The Town of Telluride also offers a free local bus called the Galloping Goose. Here is a link to the bus map and schedule.
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: This is a kid-friendly wedding weekend! We love your kids and they are welcome to join for any and all events throughout the weekend. That said, the actual ceremony and reception are in a remote location, which will make it challenging for children to come and go as they please. For that night, we will be helping parents get childcare set up for young children who won’t want to sit through the ceremony and reception and would be better suited to stay behind in town.
Q: What is the altitude of Telluride and how should I prepare?
A: Telluride is nestled in the San Juan Mountains at 8,750 feet above sea level; Mountain Village is at 9,545. Most people are totally fine but some people who live close to sea level experience symptoms of altitude sickness when they first arrive in the mountains. Here are some steps you can take to avoid this:
-
Ask your doctor to prescribe Diamox, which can lessen or prevent symptoms. The Abelows swear by it!
-
Drink lots of water the day you are traveling, and get a good night’s rest the night before. Pace yourself if drinking alcohol on your first day in the mountains.
-
If you are elderly, or have experienced difficulties with altitude sickness in the past, consider easing your way up to the altitude of Telluride. Flying into Denver or Salt Lake City and then taking a scenic road trip is one way to do so. Check out our Things to Do page for ideas of lower-elevation destinations you can consider pairing with the wedding.
-
Consider visiting one of the several oxygen bars in town, or ordering delivery oxygen from Oxygen Delivers, if you are experiencing symptoms.
Q: We want to rent a house with other guests. What do you recommend?
A: Local rental companies, Airbnb, or VRBO will be the best options for large occupancy rentals at reasonable prices. Please reference the lodging tab for links and discount codes.
Q: We want to make an extended trip out of our visit. What do you recommend in the region?
A: Telluride is surrounded by beautiful neighbors in all directions, many of which are less expensive but just as charming. See our Activities & Dining page or visit this link for more ideas!
